About Clapham North

Clapham North is a Northern line station at the northern end of Clapham High Street - the main commercial strip of one of south London's most active nightlife and dining areas. The High Street between Clapham North and Clapham Common stations is dense with bars, restaurants, music venues and cafes that draw a young professional crowd from across south London on evenings and weekends. It is genuinely busy on Friday and Saturday nights - the kind of place that has a palpable energy from early evening through to the small hours.

Outside the evening economy, Clapham North gives access to Clapham Old Town - the original historic village centre on the east side of Clapham Common, with a quieter atmosphere and some good independent restaurants around the junction of Rectory Grove and Old Town. Clapham Common (the park, one stop south) is 15 minutes walk from Clapham North station.

Clapham North opened in 1900 and serves Zone 2 on the Northern line (Morden via Charing Cross branch) only. The station is not step-free.

  • For step-free access, use Stockwell (one stop north) rather than Clapham North
