Cockfosters is the north-eastern terminus of the Piccadilly line, positioned at the very edge of the London conurbation where the suburban streets of Enfield give way to open countryside. Designed by Charles Holden and opened in 1933, it is the last in a distinguished series of 1930s stations on this section of the line - and one of the most beautifully positioned, with Trent Country Park beginning directly adjacent to the station building.
Trent Country Park covers 413 acres of ancient woodland, open meadows, two lakes and a network of walking and cycling trails. The park was historically a royal hunting ground and its character reflects that heritage - mature oak and hornbeam woodland, a sense of space unusual for a public park accessible by Underground. Entry is free year-round, and the park has a visitor centre and cafe.
Cockfosters is also the most popular park-and-ride station on the Piccadilly line. The large car park draws commuters from across south Hertfordshire who drive here and take the Underground into central London. The combination of accessible countryside, free park entry and direct Underground connection makes Cockfosters an unusually good day-trip destination from central London in just over half an hour.
Cockfosters opened in 1933 as the Piccadilly line's north-eastern terminus. It sits in Zone 5 and is step-free with lifts. The large car park serves both park-and-ride commuters and visitors to Trent Country Park.
The Piccadilly line is the only service. All trains run south toward Oakwood, Southgate, Arnos Grove and central London. Journey to King's Cross is approximately 35 minutes, to Piccadilly Circus approximately 42 minutes, and directly to Heathrow in approximately 60 minutes (no change required).
Cockfosters has toilets, shops, car parking and an information point. Trent Country Park's visitor centre and cafe are a short walk from the station.
