Limehouse is a DLR and National Rail Zone 2 station in the historic docklands neighbourhood of Limehouse in Tower Hamlets. The area has a rich history as London's first Chinatown in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the church of St Anne Limehouse -one of Nicholas Hawksmoor's baroque masterpieces -is directly beside the station. The station also connects to National Rail services on the Gospel Oak to Barking line.
Limehouse opened in 1987 as one of the original DLR stations, sitting in Zone 2 between Westferry and Shadwell. It is one of the few DLR stations with both DLR and Overground/National Rail services. The surrounding area has gentrified significantly and now has good restaurants and bars.
St Anne's Church -designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor and completed in 1730 -is one of the finest baroque churches in London and is directly beside the station. It is free to visit and the churchyard is peaceful. Hawksmoor's church at Christ Church Spitalfields and St George's Bloomsbury are the other masterpieces in his London church series.
