Turnham Green is a District and Piccadilly line station at the centre of Chiswick, one of west London's most consistently desirable residential neighbourhoods. The station opens onto Turnham Green itself - a pleasant open space flanked by the High Road on one side - and the surrounding streets form the commercial heart of a neighbourhood that has balanced strong local character with high demand from west London professional families for decades.
Turnham Green Terrace, running south from the station, and Chiswick High Road are particularly strong for independent restaurants, cafes and wine bars that serve the local population rather than tourist traffic. The range and quality is genuinely good. Bedford Park, immediately west of the station, is a conservation area built in the 1870s and 1880s as the world's first planned garden suburb - the Arts and Crafts architecture by Norman Shaw and others is well-preserved and beautiful to walk through. Gunnersbury Park is accessible to the west.
Turnham Green opened in 1869 and serves Zone 2 on both the District and Piccadilly lines. The station is not step-free. Note that the Piccadilly line does not stop here at peak hours - it operates off-peak only at Turnham Green.
The District line (green) connects east toward Chiswick Park, Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens and Richmond (Wimbledon branch). Eastbound District line also runs toward Stamford Brook and central London.
The Piccadilly line (dark blue) stops here off-peak only, connecting toward Heathrow to the west and central London to the east.
Turnham Green has shops, cafes and an information point. Turnham Green Terrace and the High Road have extensive independent food and retail options.
