West Ham is one of east London's most significant transport interchanges - a four-line station connecting the Jubilee line, District line, Hammersmith and City line and the DLR, with National Rail services also calling at the adjacent station. The convergence of this many lines at a Zone 3 location makes West Ham an important cross-London connection point for journeys that need to move between the northern, central and southern east London transport network.
The London Stadium, home of West Ham United and the venue for the 2012 London Olympics athletics programme, is a 10-minute walk from West Ham station. On match days and major events, the stadium draws large crowds and the station becomes correspondingly busy. West Ham station and Stratford station (the nearest to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park) both serve the stadium area - West Ham is marginally closer to the stadium entrance, while Stratford offers more transport options including Overground, Elizabeth line and National Rail connections.
East Village - the residential neighbourhood that grew from the 2012 Olympic Athletes' Village - sits immediately adjacent to West Ham station. The village, designed for around 3,000 homes, has its own urban square, shops, cafes and green spaces. The transition from the Athletes' Village to a functioning neighbourhood has been largely successful and the area has developed a community identity.
West Ham station serves Zone 3 and is an interchange between the Jubilee line, District line, Hammersmith and City line, and DLR. The Jubilee line platforms here were part of the 1999 extension. Step-free access is available throughout. The station is also adjacent to the Network Rail West Ham station for Greater Anglia and c2c services.
The Jubilee line (silver) connects west to Canning Town, North Greenwich, London Bridge (12 minutes) and Waterloo. Eastbound trains run toward Stratford.
The District and Hammersmith and City lines share platforms and connect west through Bow Road, Stepney Green, Whitechapel and into central London (Victoria approximately 30 minutes westbound). Eastbound District line trains run toward Barking; Hammersmith and City eastbound toward Barking.
The DLR connects to Stratford International, Stratford, and southward toward Canning Town and the airport.
West Ham has toilets, shops and an information point. East Village adjacent to the station provides cafes and shops.
West Ham is step-free throughout with lifts to all platforms.
London Stadium - 10 minutes walk. Home of West Ham United and venue for major athletics and music events. Stadium tours available on non-match days.
East Village - Immediately adjacent. Former 2012 Olympic Athletes' Village repurposed as a residential neighbourhood with urban square and local shops.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - 15 minutes walk or one stop to Stratford. The 2012 Olympic legacy park with the Velodrome, Aquatics Centre and cultural venues.
All four lines run throughout the day with good frequency. Rush hours (08:00-09:30 and 17:30-19:30) and London Stadium event days are the busiest periods. For non-event times, the station is a straightforward interchange without excessive crowds.
