Indraprastha Metro Station is an elevated Blue Line station in East Delhi, situated close to the banks of the Yamuna River. Opened in 2006, the station is named after the ancient city of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata, which is believed to have stood in this general area on the banks of the Yamuna.
The station serves the Indraprastha residential and institutional area, with the IP Extension area and the Yamuna riverfront within its catchment. The station is also close to the Delhi Gate and the historic built environment of older East Delhi. The Yamuna Bank station (the next stop east) is where the Blue Line splits toward Vaishali and Noida, making Indraprastha an important pre-junction stop.
For commuters heading from central Delhi to East Delhi or the Noida corridor, Indraprastha marks the transition from the institutional zone around ITO and Supreme Court to the residential and commercial areas of the eastern city. The station's proximity to the Yamuna gives it a distinct character compared to the dense urban stations on either side.
If you are heading to Yamuna Riverfront, Indraprastha is your closest metro stop on the Blue Line. It also gives easy access to Indraprastha Park and IP Extension Area. Use the fare calculator to plan your journey cost before you travel.
