Chancery Lane station sits at the centre of London's legal world. The streets around the station are occupied by the Inns of Court - Gray's Inn and Lincoln's Inn - historic societies of barristers that have occupied this part of London since the 14th century. The grounds of the Inns are quietly remarkable: behind their gate-houses, the chambers, dining halls and gardens of Lincoln's Inn Fields and Gray's Inn represent some of the best-preserved medieval and Georgian street patterns in central London. They are open to the public at specific times and largely unknown to visitors who stick to the more tourist-heavy parts of Zone 1.
The station also gives access to the London Silver Vaults on Chancery Lane - the world's largest collection of antique silver dealers operating in underground strong rooms - and to Lincoln's Inn Fields, London's largest public square.
