Finchley Road station is where the Jubilee line's tracks diverge from the Metropolitan line in north London - an important operational junction that passengers experience as a useful interchange point between two different routes into the same central London destinations. The Metropolitan line goes via Baker Street and into the Circle line loop; the Jubilee line heads south through Swiss Cottage, St John's Wood and Baker Street with its faster, more direct route to Canary Wharf and the South Bank. The station is in Zone 2, surrounded by the retail streets of the Finchley Road, and the O2 Centre shopping mall is immediately adjacent.
Finchley Road station opened in 1879 as part of the Metropolitan Railway. It sits in Zone 2 and is served by the Metropolitan line and the Jubilee line. The station does not have step-free access. It is a major junction point where the Jubilee line diverges north from the Metropolitan line route.
The Metropolitan line (magenta) connects south towards Baker Street, King's Cross and the Circle line loop, and north towards Wembley Park, Harrow-on-the-Hill and the outer Metropolitan branches to Amersham, Chesham and Watford.
The Jubilee line (silver) connects south through Swiss Cottage, St John's Wood and Baker Street towards Waterloo, London Bridge, Canary Wharf and beyond. Northbound on the Jubilee, the line continues through West Hampstead, Kilburn, Wembley Park and Stanmore.
Finchley Road station has a shop and a travel information point. The O2 Centre shopping mall, immediately adjacent to the station, has a cinema, supermarket, restaurants and a range of retail. The Finchley Road itself has good restaurants and cafes within a short walk.
Finchley Road does not have step-free access. The nearest accessible stations on the Jubilee line are Swiss Cottage (one stop south) and Wembley Park (several stops north). On the Metropolitan line, Baker Street has step-free access.
O2 Centre - immediately adjacent. A shopping and entertainment complex with Vue Cinema, Sainsbury's, restaurants and retail. Free to enter.
Swiss Cottage - one stop south on Jubilee. The Hampstead Theatre, the Swiss Cottage open-air pool and a cluster of good restaurants on Finchley Road.
West Hampstead - one stop north on Jubilee. An excellent neighbourhood for independent restaurants and cafes, particularly on West End Lane.
Metropolitan line and Jubilee line services at Finchley Road run from approximately 05:30 to midnight Monday to Saturday and 07:00 to 23:30 on Sundays. Night Tube operates on the Jubilee line on Friday and Saturday nights. The O2 Centre cinema is busiest on weekend evenings.
