Hainault station is the central junction of the Central line's Hainault loop, where trains from both directions - from Woodford via Roding Valley and Chigwell, and from Newbury Park via Barkingside and Fairlop - converge before circling back. The station sits immediately adjacent to Hainault Forest Country Park, which is one of the few surviving fragments of the ancient Forest of Essex that once covered much of this part of the county. The park has a lake, open grassland, ancient woodland and good walking paths, making Hainault one of the better nature destinations on the Central line's outer reaches.
Hainault station opened in 1903 as part of the Great Eastern Railway. It sits in Zone 4 and is served by the Central line on the Hainault loop. The station does not have step-free access but has a car park. It is the main junction point of the Hainault loop, where trains from both loop directions converge.
