Leyton station is a Central line stop in east London that serves one of the capital's more understated residential neighbourhoods. The area around the station has a mixed community character, shaped by waves of immigration over the past century, and is known to football fans as the home of Leyton Orient, whose Brisbane Road ground is a ten-minute walk from the station. Stratford, with Westfield and the Olympic Park, is one stop east - which makes Leyton something of an anteroom to the more heavily visited parts of east London.
The station opened in 1947 as part of the Eastern extension of the Central line, bringing Underground services into an area that had previously relied on overground trains. The surrounding streets are largely Victorian and Edwardian housing, now home to a diverse population including significant South Asian, East African and Caribbean communities.

The Central line (red) connects east to Stratford (one stop, with multiple connections including the Jubilee line, DLR, Elizabeth line and National Rail), and west through Leytonstone, Snaresbrook and South Woodford into central London. Journey time to Liverpool Street is approximately twenty minutes.
Leyton station has free TfL Wi-Fi and ticket machines. The surrounding area on Leyton High Road has shops, cafes and food stalls within a short walk of the station exit.
Leyton does not have step-free access. There are stairs between street level and the platforms. Stratford (one stop east) has full step-free access across multiple lines and is the nearest accessible Central line station in this direction.
Leyton Orient FC - ten minutes walk north. Brisbane Road (The Breyer Group Stadium) is the home ground of one of east London's oldest football clubs, with an intimate atmosphere for lower-league matches.
Coronation Gardens - five minutes walk. A local park with paths, benches and a pleasant open space popular with residents.
Stratford - one stop east. Westfield Stratford City shopping, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, multiple Underground, DLR and National Rail connections.
Central line services at Leyton run from approximately 05:30 to midnight Monday to Saturday and 07:00 to 23:30 on Sundays. Night Tube operates on the Central line on Friday and Saturday nights. The station is busiest during morning and evening rush hours and on Leyton Orient match days.
