Cathedral Parkway-110th Street

Cathedral Parkway-110th Street marks the point where the Upper West Side meets Morningside Heights, at the northwest corner of Central Park. The station takes its name from the great Cathedral of St John the Divine that rises a few blocks east, and 110th Street here is also known as Cathedral Parkway. It is a neighbourhood of students, long-time residents and a mix of grand old apartment houses along Central Park West.

The station is a local stop on the IND Eighth Avenue line, opened in 1932. The B and C trains stop here, while the A express speeds past on the centre tracks without stopping. With Central Park on one side and Columbia University's territory just to the north, it is a genuinely useful station for both residents and visitors.

The C train runs local whenever the line is operating, calling at every stop south through Midtown and into Brooklyn. The B runs local here on weekdays only, taking the Sixth Avenue route through Manhattan into Brooklyn. The A is an express and passes without stopping, so to catch the A you would use a nearby express station such as 125th Street or 59th Street-Columbus Circle. Southbound, both the B and C serve Columbus Circle and the Midtown core.

This is an underground station with the usual IND arrangement of local side platforms outside the express tracks. The A express uses the middle tracks and often rushes through while local passengers wait. Staircases lead up to street entrances around the corner of Central Park West and Cathedral Parkway. Platform signs mark uptown toward Washington Heights and downtown toward Midtown.

Accessibility

Cathedral Parkway-110th Street is step-free, with elevator access between the street and the platforms. Travellers using wheelchairs, or with pushchairs or luggage, can move through the station without stairs. It is sensible to check the MTA website or app before travelling in case an elevator is out of service.

• Only the local B and C stop here, so do not wait for the A, which passes through express.
• The B runs weekdays only, so on weekends and overnight rely on the C train.

Timings and Best Time to Travel

The subway here runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the C providing round-the-clock service and the B adding weekday capacity. Overnight, from about midnight to 5am, trains come less often, so allow extra waiting time. Weekday rush hours are the busiest, while late mornings and early afternoons are the most comfortable times to travel.
