Al Furjan

Al Furjan feels like a neighbourhood that grew up around its own metro stop. This is villa-and-townhouse country on the western edge of Dubai, low-rise and quiet, where school runs and evening dog walks set the pace rather than office towers. Al Furjan Metro Station sits on the Route 2020 branch of the Red Line, and for the families who live in the surrounding clusters it turned a long drive into a short ride.

Step out and the mood is suburban rather than showy. Discovery Gardens spreads out to one side, Al Furjan's tidy streets to the other, and community pavilions with supermarkets and cafes are the anchor points people actually use. There is little tourist traffic here, which is exactly why residents like the station. It is calm, it is close to home, and it links a growing pocket of west Dubai to the rest of the city without a car.

Station Overview

Al Furjan Metro Station opened in 2021 on the Route 2020 branch of the Dubai Metro Red Line. It sits in Zone 2 of the NOL fare system. Like the rest of the network it is served by fully automated, driverless trains, and the station is elevated above the road on a viaduct.

Lines and Connectivity

Al Furjan is a Red Line station on the Route 2020 spur. Heading south-west the branch runs to Jumeirah Golf Estates and on to Expo City Dubai, while north-east it rejoins the main Red Line towards the Marina, Downtown and the airport. There is no interchange here, so for Green Line stations you change to the Green Line at Union or BurJuman.

Station Layout and Structure

The station is elevated, with lifts, escalators and stairs carrying passengers from the ground-level concourse up to the platforms. Facilities cover toilets, ATMs, NOL top-up machines and a staffed service desk. Gold Class carriages sit at the front of every train and a women and children carriage runs in the middle, both marked along the platform edge.

Accessibility

Al Furjan has full step-free access, with lifts linking street level, the concourse and the platform. Tactile paving, audio announcements and platform screen doors are all fitted, which makes the station easy to use with a pushchair, luggage or a wheelchair on the walk towards the residential clusters.

Travel Tips

• Feeder buses fan out from the station to the individual Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens clusters, so check the RTA app for the one nearest your building.
• For Downtown or the Marina you stay on the Red Line the whole way, with no change needed.
• A NOL card costs AED 25 including AED 19 of credit and works across metro, bus, tram and water transport.
• To reach any Green Line station, change lines at Union or BurJuman.
• The metro runs Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00.

Timings and Best Time to Travel

Trains at Al Furjan run Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00. The busiest windows are weekday mornings around 07:30-09:30 and evenings around 17:00-19:30 as residents commute in and out. Mid-morning and early afternoon are the calmest times to travel.
