Deptford has a long history as a major Royal Navy dockyard -the Deptford Dockyard was one of the first established by Henry VIII in 1513. Today the area is known for its street market (Deptford Market on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays), its creative community and Goldsmiths University nearby. The high street has a diverse range of shops and restaurants.
