Anvers is the foot-of-the-hill Métro station for Sacré-Cœur - the white travertine basilica that dominates the Paris skyline from the summit of the Butte Montmartre. From the station exit, the famous staircase of Rue Foyatier climbs 222 steps to the basilica terrace, where one of the widest panoramic views over Paris opens up. The funicular railway to the right of the staircase accepts standard Métro tickets and takes 90 seconds.
The neighbourhood between the station and the base of the hill - Boulevard de Rochechouart and its surroundings - is lively and affordable, with an authentic Paris energy quite different from the touristified upper village around Place du Tertre.
Zone 1. Line 2 only. No step-free access.
Sacré-Cœur - 15 minutes walk uphill or 2 minutes by funicular. Basilica completed in 1914. Free entry; dome viewpoint ticketed. Panoramic view over Paris from the terrace.
Montmartre Village - Above the hill. Cobbled streets, the Musée de Montmartre (Renoir's studio), the vineyard and the artists' square of Place du Tertre.
Standard Métro hours. Sacré-Cœur is open daily 06:00–22:30. The view from the terrace is spectacular at sunrise - arrive by 07:00 for the best light and no crowds.
