Trocadéro provides the most celebrated view of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The broad esplanade between the two curved wings of the Palais de Chaillot frames the tower across the Seine with perfect symmetry - the image that appears on postcards, in films and on millions of photographs. At sunrise the esplanade is almost empty; by midday it is one of the busiest tourist spots in Europe. The timing of your visit matters enormously here.
The Palais de Chaillot itself is worth more than a passing glance. The Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine inside contains extraordinary scale models of French cathedrals and full-size reproductions of Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements - an undervisited museum that rewards an hour of careful looking. The Théâtre National de Chaillot stages major dance and theatre productions throughout the year.
Zone 1. Lines 6 and 9. Step-free access available. Line 6 runs above ground on an elevated viaduct between Passy and Bir-Hakeim, offering spectacular views over the Seine and Eiffel Tower from the train itself.
