History
The Red Line follows King Abdullah Road, one of the most important administrative and diplomatic corridors in the Saudi capital. The road is flanked by government ministries, foreign embassies, and major institutional headquarters, ensuring strong daily commuter volumes from the outset. Long-term plans include an extension from the western terminus toward Diriyah - the birthplace of the Saudi state and a UNESCO World Heritage Site under active restoration as part of the Diriyah Gate development project. This extension would make the Riyadh Metro a direct gateway to one of the Kingdom's most significant cultural tourism destinations.
