The Blue Line (Line 1) is the Riyadh Metro's primary north–south spine, running along the Olaya–Batha axis through the commercial heart of the city. It serves the iconic STC Al Olaya Station and the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), making it the most strategically significant line in the network.
Line 1 was designed as the flagship corridor of the Riyadh Metro project, connecting the city's modern financial district in the north to its historic urban centre in the south. The Olaya corridor is Riyadh's most important commercial street, and the Blue Line was routed directly beneath it to maximise ridership potential. Construction involved some of the most complex underground tunnelling in the region. The line's anchor station - STC Al Olaya - was designed by the globally acclaimed architecture firm Zaha Hadid Architects and is considered one of the most architecturally significant metro stations in the world. The KAFD station at the northern terminus provides seamless access to the King Abdullah Financial District, Riyadh's most ambitious real estate development and the country's emerging financial capital.
