Woodford station is the junction point where the Central line branches - trains alternate between the route heading north to Buckhurst Hill, Loughton and Epping, and the loop heading east through Roding Valley and Chigwell to Hainault. It is a straightforward suburban station with a station car park and good access to Epping Forest, but the branching of the line means passengers need to pay attention to their train's destination board. Woodford's constituency history is also notable - Winston Churchill represented the Woodford area in Parliament for forty years until 1964.
The station first opened in 1856. The surrounding area of Woodford Green is a prosperous suburban settlement with good independent shops, restaurants and a large village green that gives the neighbourhood a distinctly countryside feel despite its Zone 4 location.
