Al Ghubaiba

Al Ghubaiba is the Green Line's front door to old Bur Dubai, the Creekside quarter that first grew up as a trading and residential settlement. Step out and the pace changes at once, the streets are lined with small shops, textile merchants and cafes, and the Creek is only a short stroll away. It is a working, lived-in part of the city rather than a polished showpiece, and that is exactly its charm.

The station also sits beside one of Dubai's busiest surface transport points, so the pavements outside carry a constant flow of commuters heading for buses and abras. Walk towards the water and you reach the Bur Dubai abra station, where water taxis putter across to Deira, while inland the lanes of the Textile Souk and the restored wind-tower houses of Al Fahidi wait to be explored.

Station Overview

Al Ghubaiba Station opened in 2011 on the Dubai Metro's Green Line. It sits in Zone 6 of the NOL fare system. The Dubai Metro runs fully automated, driverless trains, and Al Ghubaiba is an underground station serving old Bur Dubai.

Lines and Connectivity

Al Ghubaiba is a Green Line station. One way the line runs under the Creek towards Al Ras and Gold Souq in Deira, and the other way it continues towards Sharaf DG and on to the Creek terminus. It is not an interchange, so for the Red Line you change at Union or BurJuman.

Station Layout and Structure

The station is underground, with platforms below street level and a concourse above holding the gates, machines and service desk. Facilities include toilets, ATMs, NOL top-up machines, a staffed information point and clear signage towards the neighbouring bus station. Gold Class carriages sit at the front of each train and a women and children carriage runs in the middle.

Accessibility

Al Ghubaiba has full step-free access, with lifts linking street level, the concourse and the platforms. Tactile paving, audio announcements and platform screen doors are all in place, useful given the heavy crowds moving between the metro, the bus station and the abras.

• The Al Ghubaiba bus station next door runs long-distance services, including routes to Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
• Walk to the Bur Dubai abra station to cross the Creek to Deira by traditional water taxi for a few dirhams.
• A NOL card costs AED 25 including AED 19 of credit and works on metro, bus, tram and marine transport.
• For the Red Line, change at Union or BurJuman.
• The metro runs Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00.

Timings and Best Time to Travel

Trains at Al Ghubaiba run Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00. Weekday rush hours are around 07:30-09:30 and 17:00-19:30, when the interchange with buses and abras is at its busiest. For an unhurried walk through Al Fahidi and the souks, aim for the late afternoon and early evening.
